Older dancers can help teach our preschool and elementary classes as teaching assistants and apprentices. It’s a chance to lead, give back, and see dance from the teacher’s side of the room.
What assistants do
- Help keep class flowing and give extra help to students who need it
- Demonstrate barre, center and across-the-floor exercises while the teacher instructs
- Help little ones with shoes, line-ups and getting safely back to the lobby
- Dance onstage with their classes at the recital when needed
- Lead assistants may teach a class when the regular teacher is out
Commitments
- Participate for the full dance year, August to May
- Miss no more than three days of an assigned class each semester
- Wear the right attire for the class you assist: leotard, tights and ballet or tap shoes (no bootie shorts, bra tops or baggy T-shirts)
- Arrive 10 minutes early, unless coming straight from another class
- Learn all the choreography for your classes and help at picture days, rehearsals and performances
- Set a positive example for younger students at all times
Classes are assigned based on each assistant’s availability and the studio’s needs. Interested? Ask at the front desk or call (256) 355-2996.
